Is there enough evidence?

“Then this Daniel was distinguished above the presidents and the satraps because an excellent spirit was in him, and the king sought to set him over the whole realm. Then the presidents and satraps sought to find occasion to bring accusation against Daniel concerning the kingdom, but they could find no occasion or fault, for he was faithful nor was there any error or fault found in him. Then said these men, we shall not find any occasion to bring accusation against this Daniel except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.” (Daniel 6:3-5)

Just as they had done many times before, the children of Israel turned away from God and in his anger He delivered them into the hands of the Babylonians. They were taken into captivity where they remained for seventy years. Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, instructed his chief eunuch to identify, amongst the captives, youths who were “…without blemish, well-favoured in appearance and skillful in all wisdom, discernment and understanding, apt in learning knowledge, competent to stand and serve in the king’s palace.” (Daniel 1:4) The king’ plan was to teach these youths the literature and language of the Chaldeans. In other words he wanted to make them Babylonians.

A number of youths were identified, including Daniel, Chadrach, Meshach and Abednego. These young men distinguished themselves. The Bible says that in all matters of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king asked them, he found them to be ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters which were in his realm (Daniel 1:20).

King Darius, who succeeded King Nebuchadnezzar, appointed 120 satraps over the kingdom and over them, he appointed three presidents one of which was Daniel. Daniel distinguished himself and soon the satraps and other presidents became so jealous of him that they began to plan and scheme how they would discredit him but they could find nothing to use against him except his faith. In other words, they could only discredit him for his love for, reverence of and obedience to his God and it is this evidence that caused him to be thrown into the den of lions. But God honoured Daniel and shut the mouth of the lions.

Friend, today, if you were accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you? Or would the accuser have no evidence to convict you? We are called to be the light of the world, the salt of the earth. It should be evident to all that we belong to Jesus. If we honour God, He will honour us and will shut the mouth of every lion for our sake. Hallelujah.

Prayer: Lord, your Word tells us that we should not be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ because it is the power of God unto salvation. Please, help me to proclaim this Gospel in every area of my life. Help me to live a life in which you shine through so that everyone may know that I belong to you in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen.
