Your times are in His hands

“So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of His brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came upon David in power, …” (1 Samuel 16:13)

God commanded Saul to go and totally destroy the Amalekites. He was told not to spare any man, woman, children, infants, cattle, sheep, camels and donkeys. Instead of obeying God, Saul spared Agag, the king of the Amalekites, as well as the best sheep, cattle, fat calves and lambs. As a result of his disobedience, God rejected Saul as king over Israel and commanded Samuel to go to the house of Jesse and anoint one of his sons. To everyone’s surprise, Samuel was asked to anoint David, the youngest and the most unlikely one in Jesse’s household. Although David was anointed to be king at a young age,  he did not become king over all of Israel until he was thirty years of age. But God knew all along that this would be the case. He had to wait many years, and experience many trials before the fulfillment of the promise.

The Bible also tells us about Hannah who was childless for many years and was subjected to mockery by Peninnah, her co-wife. But when the time came, God blessed her womb and Hannah gave birth to Samuel who became one of Israel’s greatest judge and prophet.

Friend, the Bible tells us that “in His time He makes all things beautiful” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). God has a set time for everything. As human beings we tend to be impatient and want things to happen NOW. God’s timing is different from ours. We forget that our knowledge is limited but God’s is limitless. God knows all about us. He has a blue print of our lives. It is better for us to wait on His time because His time is always the best time.

Prayer:

Lord, I am so grateful that you are a God who is all knowing. There is nothing that is hidden from you and that is why I desire to trust you with my life. Lord, take my life and do with it what you will. I lay down all my plans and take only your plans for my life. Help me not to question you but to obey what it is you tell me to do and to go where you want me to go. I ask you to remove every anxiety in my heart and replace it with peace as I wait on the fulfillment of your promises for my life which I know will never fail. I pray all this believing in Jesus Wonderful Name. Amen.
