God has not forgotten you

“The king said, Is there not still someone of the house of Saul to whom I may show the [unfailing, unsought, unlimited] mercy and kindness of God? Ziba replied, Jonathan has yet a son who is lame in his feet. And the king said, Where is he? Ziba replied, He is in the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo debar” (2 Samuel 9:3-5)

Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan and grandson of Saul, was five years old when news came that both his father and grandfather had been killed in battle at Jezreel. His nurse picked him up and as she attempted to flee in haste, dropped him. As a result of the fall, Mephibosheth became lame in both feet and was taken to the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar, where he remained in obscurity. Lo Debar represents a place of forgetfulness. Mephibosheth was taken to a land of forgetfulness and was forgotten, so it seemed.

Some time later, David was installed king of all Israel. He had defeated his enemies all around and was reigning unchallenged. It was at this time, at the peak of his popularity, that David remembered the oath he had made to show kindness to the house of Jonathan forever (1 Samuel 20:14-17). On learning that Jonathan had a son who was still living, David immediately sent for him and when Mephibosheth arrived, David said “I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather, and you shall eat at my table always. Overnight, Mephibosheth, who had lived in obscurity, who had been forgotten, was elevated to the king’s table.

Friend, you may be going through a trying time right now and may have concluded that God has forgotten you. Perhaps you have been believing Him for promotion at work, a life partner, healing of a sickness, increase in your finances, salvation or deliverance for your loved ones, etc, but in spite of praying and seeking God’s face, nothing has happened. Know today that even though it may seem like it, God has not forgotten you. Remember that He makes all things beautiful in his time (Ecclesiastes 3:11). His time is always the best time. Remember, God’s delays are not His denials.

God saw Mephibosheth in the land of Lo Debar and when the time was right, He lifted him out of that land to the king’s palace. Just as He did it for Mephibosheth, He will do it for you.

Friend, you have not been forgotten.

Prayer:

Lord, I praise you and I worship you. I thank you for your faithfulness towards me. I know that my days are in your hands and that you know what is best for me. I choose to believe your Word which says that you will never leave me nor forsake me. I thank you that my night season is over. Thank you that like Mephibosheth, you are taking me from obscurity into the limelight. Help me to be patient and wait on you. I love you now and always. Amen and Amen.
