THE GOD OF ABUNDANCE

“Now unto Him that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” (Ephesians 3:20 KJV)

The Apostle Paul was fond of interjecting prayer into his instructions and counsel to the various churches to which he wrote. In his letter to the Ephesians, he adds the above prayer, which speaks of the all-sufficiency and inexhaustible nature of God. Paul reminds the Ephesians that the God they serve is so awesome that one cannot even begin to fathom His greatness.

Since the Word of God is from everlasting to everlasting, Paul’s prayer is of relevance to us today. First, we must understand that there is nothing that God cannot do and second, that He can do so much more than we could ever imagine. Our God is a God of increase, of abundance and overflow. He said to His disciples, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10 KJV). The Amplified puts it this way, “I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows). He is not only talking of one area of our lives but in every area.

When we look at the Word of God, we see that He has a record of doing much more than we could ask or think. The widow in Kings 4:1-7 had lost her husband and the creditor had already come to take away her two sons into slavery. She turned to the man of God, Elisha, for help. Not only did God provide enough oil to settle the debt, He ensured that she and her sons had enough to live on thereafter. We are told that Ruth started off picking up after the reapers in the field of Boaz but she ended up owning the field. Finally, when our Lord fed the five thousand, not only were they all satisfied, there were twelve baskets left over.

What are you in need of today? Whatever it is, believe that God is able. Trust Him today to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you could ask or think and watch Him do just that.

Prayer:

Lord, I thank you for your promises that are Yea and Amen. I acknowledge that you are God Almighty and that there is nothing that is impossible with you. Cause me to understand that you are able to do so much more than I could ever imagine and that I need not be anxious about anything. I will not waver in my trust in you because you have said that those who trust in you shall never see shame. I love you and I bless you in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen.
