DOES HE DWELL IN YOUR HOUSE? “And the ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house three months, and the Lord blessed his household and everything he had.” (1Chronicles 13:14) Throughout their wandering in the wilderness, the children of Israel carried with them the Ark of the Covenant. This was a sacred portable chest inside which were the two stone tablets containing the Ten Commandments and Aaron’s rod. During one of the battles with the Philistines, the Ark of the Covenant was captured but was soon returned to the children of Israel after disaster struck the Philistine camp. The ark remained in Kirjath Jearim but was later brought back to Jerusalem by King David. It was kept in the house of Obed-Edom for three months and the Word of God says that his entire household was blessed. The Ark of the Covenant, which is sometimes referred to as the Ark of the Lord, the Ark of God or the Ark of the Testimony, was a symbol of God’s presence. It is no wonder that Obed-Edom’s household was blessed. It is the portion of everyone who comes under the Lordship of God to be blessed. We read in the Bible of how Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses and Joshua, to mention a few, were blessed. The Bible says that we have a “better covenant” established on better promises because of the sacrificial work of Christ on Calvary (Hebrews 8:6). With His death on the cross, we no longer need a symbol like the Ark of the Covenant; we have become the temple of God. In order to walk in the blessings that Jesus’ death has made available to us, we must allow Him entrance. He said “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. (Revelation 3:20 NKJV ). Note that the Word of God says the Ark of the Covenant “remained” in the house of Obed-Edom. For the blessings of God to manifest in our lives, we must allow Him to “remain” and have His way. Is He dwelling in your house or is He an occasional visitor? Prayer: Lord, thank you for your Word that is sweeter than honey in the honeycomb. Thank you for the better promises that now belong to us because you died for us. Father, I want all that you have for me and therefore, I purpose to allow you to have full residence in my heart and in my life. Take over every part of my life not just a part. Do with me as you will. I purpose to live a life that brings honour and glory to your Name in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen.
