ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES...
“For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures………..” (I Corinthians 3:3-4 NIV)
It had come to the knowledge of the Apostle Paul that after he left Corinth a number of doctrinal and ethical problems had arisen in the Corinthian church. To correct this, the Apostle writes a letter. He tells them that everything he passed on to them was what he had received and that all that he had taught them concerning the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus is according to the Scriptures.
Nothing about Jesus was an after thought. It was all in God’s plan. Everything concerning Jesus was prophesied. That He left His throne of glory to come down to earth; to be born in a manger, the son of a carpenter and live among us, is according to the Scriptures. (Isaiah 7:14). That He who knew no sin became sin for us (2 Corinthians 5:21); that He bore the shame; suffered in our place; and endured the crucifixion, is according to the Scriptures (Numbers 21:9). That He rose again triumphantly on the third day defeating death and the grave (1 Corinthians 15:26) and is seated at the right hand of the Father, is also according to the Scriptures. (Acts 7:55)
You see, we have all been born and many more shall be born but never according to the Scriptures. Many have died and some have even died for a good cause; such as when fighting for their country; but their death was not according to the Scriptures. And we know of some who Christ Himself raised from the dead, such as Lazarus and the Widow of Nain’s son, but these were not specifically prophesied by the Scriptures. He came, He died and He was raised from the dead just as the Scriptures says. In Jesus Christ all Scripture was fulfilled. Friend, this tells us that the Scriptures are true and that God cannot lie. We can rely on His Word, we can trust Him to the very end.
Do you believe the Scriptures? Have you entrusted your life to the Jesus that the Scriptures talk about? This same Jesus of the Scriptures tells us that He has gone to prepare a place for us and that He is coming back to take us so that where He is, we might be also.
Will you be in that number? (Revelations 21:11-15)
Prayer:
Lord, thank you that you left your throne of glory to come to earth and give us the opportunity to know you. Thank you for the pain and the shame that you endured for our sake. Thank you for dying for us so that we might have eternal life. Indeed, you did not have to do it but you did. Lord, may we continue to walk in the plan and the purposes that you have for us. Now Lord, we pray for all those that do not know you. May they accept you and come to believe in the Jesus of the Scriptures so that some day, they may be with you. In Jesus precious Name we pray. Amen.
