WHOSE REPORT WILL YOU BELIEVE?
“While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. “Your daughter is dead”, they said. “Why bother the teacher any more?” Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, Don’t be afraid, just believe.” Mark 5:35-36 Jesus had just healed the demon possessed man in the region of the Gerasenes and had returned to the other side of the lake when along comes Jairus, one of the rulers of the synagogue. Jairus begged Jesus to come home with him and heal his twelve-year-old daughter who was dying. Jesus agrees to go but on the way he is sidetracked by the woman who had had an issue of blood for twelve years. This woman was desperate and said to herself that if she could only touch the hem of Jesus’ garment she would be healed and she did just that and was healed. Not one to let any opportunity to teach a lesson go by, Jesus uses this woman’s action to teach everyone around that it was her faith that had made her whole. The Bible tells us that while he was still speaking about the faith of this woman, along comes some men to tell Jairus that his daughter was dead and there was no longer any need for Jesus to go to the house. Jesus tells Jairus not to be afraid but to believe. In other word, Jesus tells Jairus not to doubt but to have faith. Jairus could have responded and told Jesus not to bother to go with him anymore since his daughter was now dead. Praise God for Jairus who opted to believe the words of Jesus and not the message of the men who had come from his house. We are reminded of a certain man in the Old Testament who also opted to believe God’s report. God told Noah to build an ark because He was going to send floodwaters that would destroy all life. Friend, Noah chose to believe God and began building the ark. When he finished, he and his family got in along with all the creatures just as God had commanded him, and the rest is history. Just as He said He would, God sent rain for forty days and forty nights and every living thing that moved on the earth perished What if Noah had believed the “so-called meteorologists” or the mockers and scorners of his day who said it was not going to rain?
Now friend, whose report will you believe concerning that situation that you are facing right now? Will you believe the report of men or the report of God. Will you believe the report of the doctor, the politicians, your bank manager, your boss, or the report of He who has the power to change every situation, every circumstance, every condition and turn it for your good. Today, be like Jairus who chose to believe the report of the Lord and received his miracle. Be like Noah who believed God and saved his life and that of many more. Choose to believe the report of the Lord. Prayer: Lord, it is so wonderful to know that you have the last say in everything. I know that you are a good God and that everything you do is good. Today, I choose to receive and accept your report concerning (name the situation/condition/circumstances). I refuse every other report that is contrary to your report and I thank you in advance for what you will do in Jesus Name I pray. Amen.
