Have you received the Promise of The Father? The Bible tells us that after He rose from the dead, Jesus appeared to His disciples and while eating with them gave some important instructions. He told them to remain in Jerusalem until they have received the promise of the Father (Acts 1:4). He then went on to tell them, "But ye shall receive power, after that The Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8). The Promise of The father is The Holy Spirit. If the Holy Ghost were not important, Jesus would not have told the disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they received Him. Jesus knew they needed the “power” to be able to accomplish the task ahead. Friend, if the disciples needed Him, how much more do we need Him. According to the Word of God, the Holy Spirit will: 1. Teach us all things. Jesus told the disciples that the Holy Spirit whom God will send to represent Him, will teach them all things (John 14:26). Friend, there are many things about life that we cannot learn in school, at university or read about in books, things that only the Holy Spirit can teach us. Ask Him today and let Him teach you those things you need to know. 2. Lead us into all the Truth. The Holy Spirit will reveal the Truth, Christ Jesus, to us. "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come." (John 16:13) Sometimes we are at a loss because so many things seem to be coming against us at once. At such times we don’t even know how to pray but the Holy Spirit will show us and give us wisdom how to pray and direct us on what to do. 3. Help us please God. In 2 Corinthians 4:13 the Holy Spirit is referred to as "The Spirit of Faith". Remember, without faith, its impossible to please God. He will help us to please God. He will show us and guide us into paths of holiness, paths of righteousness, into ways that are pleasing to God. The Holy Spirit will be with us as we walk the faith walk and will help us to please God. 4. Reveal to us things to come. In 2 Peter 1:21, the Bible speaking of the Holy Spirit says "For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." When the Holy Spirit comes in our lives, He will give us gifts such as the gift of prophecy. In the Book of Corinthians, Paul admonishes us to desire this gift. He says that "Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy" (I Corinthians 14:1) The Holy Spirit will enable us align our talk to the Word of God. 5. Enable the fruit of the Spirit to become manifest in our lives. When we receive the Holy Spirit and walk with Him, the fruit of the spirit will become evident in our lives. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law" (Galatians 5:22-23). With the fruit comes other things. For example, the Bible tells us “the joy of the Lord is our strength”. Friend, without experiencing and fully embracing the Holy Spirit we cannot appropriate ALL that Jesus Christ has for us. Ask God to fill you, baptize you and let you experience the wonderful presence and visitation of The Holy Spirit. If you have not already received Him ask God to fill you TODAY! Let us pray Father, thank you for the Holy Spirit. Thank you for the encounter that I am going to have with the Person of The Holy Spirit. Jesus, you promised the disciples that they would receive Power when the Holy Spirit has come upon them. Since this was “a Promise from The Father”, I desire the same. Lord, I ask that you teach me the way that I should walk so that I may experience the visitations of The Holy Spirit. Jesus, You said "…. All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" (Mathew 28:18-19 KJV). I desire this Power to witness, help me appropriate it in Your Mighty Name, Amen. Lord, like Paul, I desire that my testimony will not be with persuasive words only but in demonstration of the Spirit and of Power. Lord Jesus, change us, and like Peter, let us never be the same again. Father, you say that all that believed and received you, you gave them Power to become the sons of God; Father this is my desire, to walk in the fullness of this Power, in Jesus Great and Mighty Name, Amen. Father, open my eyes to the full revelation of your Power towards us that believe, in Jesus Name, Amen. In anticipation, Lord Jesus, I thank you that I shall experience the Power and Presence of The Holy Spirit, in Your Mighty Name, Amen. Precious Holy Spirit, welcome, teach me, direct me and help me to appropriate the Power of God in Jesus Faithful Name, Amen. Click here for Previous Weekly Devotions
