DO YOU TRUST HIM?

“Then the king was exceedingly glad and commanded that Daniel should be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den and no hurt of any kind was found on him because he believed in (relied on, adhered to, and trusted in) his God “ (Daniel 6:23 TAB).

The Bible says that Daniel was more distinguished than the other two presidents and the satraps under King Darius of Babylon because he had an excellent spirit. Knowing the favour that Daniel had found with the King, the presidents and satraps sought to discredit him. They devised a plan and persuaded the king to issue a decree that no man was to ask petition of any god but King Darius and that anyone who disobeyed would be thrown into the lions den. Daniel was undaunted and continued to pray to his God. In fact, the Bible says he opened his windows, knelt down and prayed three times a day to his God. Not surprisingly, this was quickly reported to the king who was reminded that none of his decrees or statutes could be changed or repealed. The king had no choice but to carry out his decree and Daniel was thrown into the lions den. However, in the morning when the king went to the den he found that Daniel was unharmed “…because he believed in (relied on, adhered to, and trusted in) his God.”

Friend, there is no where in the Word of God that we are told that our walk with the Lord will be “trouble-free”. Troubles are bound to come to every Believer. In fact, the Bible tells us in Psalm 34:19 that, “many evils confront the consistently righteous but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” The Bible also says that “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Daniel trusted God to deliver him from the lions den. He believed it and did not waver and God did deliver him. When we trust God, when we believe His promises concerning us, He will show Himself strong on our behalf. Unfortunately, many times we do the opposite. We doubt His Word and His promises. When we doubt God and fail to trust Him or believe His Word, we are in essence saying that He is not who He says He is and a double-minded man cannot receive from the Lord (James 1:7).

The reason many people do not believe and trust God is because they do not really know Him and what He is able to do. When we take time to learn more about God through His Word and from spending time in His presence, we will learn to trust Him. Daniel knew the God in whom he believed and that is why he was undisturbed by the decree. May we too come to know God in such a manner that we will be able to emerge unscathed from every type of “lions den” and be a testimony to others.

Prayer: Lord, your Word says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and he will direct your paths.” Teach us to trust you, to believe in you. Take away every unbelief so that we may walk in your plans and your promises for us in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen.
