The Anchor Holds In spite of the Storm

‘Then He got into the boat and His disciples followed Him. Without warning, a furious storm came upon the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke Him, saying, “Lord, save us, We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid? Then He got up and rebuked the winds and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey Him (Matt.8:23-27).

Jesus and His disciples were in the boat crossing to the other side of the lake. Jesus was tired and gone to sleep at the back of the boat. The Bible says that without warning a furious storm began and so furious was it that the disciples feared they would drown. They had forgotten who they had with them on the boat. They failed to realize that they had “the Anchor” on board, the one that is able to steady every life when there is a storm. The one that neither slumbers In their panic, they woke Jesus up and asked Him to save them. Jesus rebuked them for their “little” faith and then spoke to the wind and the waves and it became calm.

As believers, we will have storms. It comes with the territory. The Bible tells us that many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivers him out of them all (Psalm 34:19). Many of these storms will come suddenly without warning and some will be furious. Infact you may be going through one of those right now. Yes, perhaps the ship of your life is being tossed to and fro, here and there and you don’t know what to do. You fear going under, you fear being drowned. Friend, let Jesus take over. He is “the anchor” that will steady every ship that is being tossed by the storm. With Him you will survive the storm.

Paul knew that Jesus was “the anchor”. He was confident that the Lord was able to deliver him out of every storm. He had seen God do it over and over again. When the storm broke out on the way to Rome, Paul could confidently tell those with whom he was sailing “But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost, only the ship will be destroyed (Acts 27:22).

Friend, what storm are you going through right now? Is it a family storm, a financial storm, an emotional storm? No matter the kind of storm, Jesus is able to steady the ship of your life and cause you not to drown. Don’t think He is sleeping and cannot see. After all, does the Bible not say that “He will not let your foot slip, He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep (Psalm 121:3&4)

Jesus is the Anchor.

Prayer:

Lord, I bless you today and I am so grateful for the privilege of knowing you. I thank you for always being there. Thank you for being my anchor, the one that keeps me from drowning in the violent waves that come against me. Lord, thank you for keeping me even now as I face the storm (name it), I know that I shall come out of this victorious in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen.
