The Prophet Isaiah is sometimes referred to as the evangelist of the Old Testament because of the Messianic prophecies that characterize the Book of Isaiah. The prophet saw the coming of the Messiah and like a true evangelist published it. One of the most popular of these prophecies is taken from Isaiah 9:6. It is as if  the prophet was introducing us to the Messiah, telling us who He is and what He will do. He says:

 

Unto us a Child is born: The Child, the Messiah, came for us all and even though He is God, He came as a child like everyone else and walked this earth.

 

Unto us a Son is given: Isaiah says this child, the Messiah, is the Son of God. God so loved us that He willingly gave us His only son (John: 3:16)

 

Isaiah goes on to tell us the Names that this child will be called and what He will do:

 

Wonderful Counselor: Isaiah is saying this child is a miracle. Everything about Him is wonderful. He is also the Counselor, The one with whom all wisdom resides. He is the wisdom of God.

 

Mighty God: He is strong and powerful. He is our Lord who is mighty in battle. (Psalm 24:8)

 

Everlasting Father: He existed before the world began and will continue to exist. In other words, He is from everlasting to everlasting.  He is our Father, the father that many never had.

 

Prince of Peace- He is the author and sustainer of peace. The peace that so many desire, but cannot seem to find, is with Him. In fact, He is our peace.

 

This child that Isaiah spoke about did come. He lived on this earth and went about doing good. He was betrayed, died and on the third day, rose again. He is now in heaven sitted at the right hand of the Father where He forever makes intercession for us. He is available to all that call upon Him. Do you know this child that Isaiah spoke of ?

 

He is our Messiah?

 

Prayer: Lord, today, I acknowledge you as the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace. You are everything that your Word says you are. I desire to know you. Open my eyes to see you, my ears to hear you and my heart to receive you in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen.
