Do you love Him?
Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with the whole heart! (Psalm 119:1-2)
If ever there was anyone who loved the Word of God, it was King David (Psalm 119:47). As you go through the Psalms, especially Psalm 119, you will see how he constantly refers to God’s law or God’s statutes and its importance to him.
In David’s words, a person who walks in accordance with God’s law, who keeps them and seeks the Lord with his/her whole heart is blessed (Psalm 199:1-2). David knew that God’s law kept a man on the straight and narrow path and away from sin (Psalm 199:11) and that God’s law is the way of truth and faithfulness (Psalm 119:30). David delighted himself in the Word of God (Psalm 119:16) and declared, “Your testimonies also are my delight and counselors” (Psalm 119:24).
It is not difficult to see why David loved God’s law. It was simply because he loved God. When you love someone, you will want to please them. More so when you know that whatever that person has is good for you. David knew that God’s law is good (Psalm 119:39). Those who decide to follow Jesus are supposed to do so because they love Him. If we love Him then like David, we must love His Word and the only way we can show that love is by living in accordance with His Word.
However, we cannot walk in accordance with the Word if we do not know it so, it is incumbent upon us to read, study, meditate and memorize the Word. As we appropriate the Word of God, our faith will grow and God will be able to use us to accomplish great things just as He used David.
Friend, do you love Him? If so, you must love His Word.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for your Word. Like David, we declare that the entrance of your Word brings light and understanding to the simple. We want to be enlightened by your Word so that we might grow into the men and women that you have called us to be. We thank you and bless you in Jesus Wonderful Name. Amen.
